Making a Paper Flower Bouquet

So I've been on a crafty kick lately.  After I tested the waters with my Home Made Valentine's I decided to tackle another craft that I've been wanting to try for a long long time.  Paper Source has these cute Paper Flower Kits that I think are just darling, so I finally ordered one.  I know I mentioned last time I had to tap into my inner girl scout, well this project required even more of that particular skill set!

This project was a bit tricky at first, but it was very repetitive so once you figured how to make one you could perfect your skill on the next one, and the next one, and so on.  I purchased the full kit, but now that  I know how to make them I would suggest cutting the leaves and flowers on your own to save some $$.  You can see below how the shapes look before I put them all together.

Now on to the tutorial:

Materials:  White rice paper for flowers (or whatever color you like - they key is rice paper so its really pliable), Green floral tape, Green wire, Green paper for leaves and glue.

Step 1:  Punch out or cut the leaves from the green paper and glue them to the wire.  There should be 5 leaves per flower.  The wire should be about 12" long.

Step 2:  Either punch out or cut the rice paper in a continuous round length.  The circular shape will allow the flowers to form easier.  To create the flower glue the end in the center and swirl outward.  Put another dab of glue on the outer end to close the flower.

Step 3: Create the stem. Combine 5 of the leaves attached to wires to create a bunch.  The wire should face outward so when you bend them down you cannot see it.  Wrap each bunch with floral tape to secure the bundle, creating one thicker stem.

Step 4:  Apply glue to each of the leaves and attach the flower to the leaves.  You'll have to move the leaves around to get the positioned right to hold the flower.  Each one is a bit different depending on the size.

Step 5:  Put them all into a vase and love them!  Congratulations you just made yourself a bouquet of flowers!

It took me about 2 hours to put this together. These would be a great centerpiece for a shower or party - but if you're making them in bulk, I'd suggest calling in your old girl scout buddies for back up.  Hope you enjoy!
